Case 1

“Adam” is a child identified as being “on the spectrum” of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder.  Samples of his audiologic findings over the first 6 years are presented.

Birth history is significant for grade IV intraventricular hemmorhage, premature birth, perinatal depression, respiratory distress and hyperbilirubinemia.

His ABR and OAE data obtained at age 1 month are shown below.  Click on the image to see the full screen view.

OAEs were again present when he was seen the next month, and at age 5 months.

This ABR was obtained at age 7 months.

  • Based on these findings, what would your recommendations be?
