D.H. is 14 years old, with normal hearing in the left ear and profound mixed loss (with maximum conductive component) in the right ear. D.H. lives on a Caribbean island that does not have an audiologist; NSU audiologists, alumni, community preceptors and doctoral students participated in a mission trip to conduct diagnostic testing and fit children with product donated by ReSound. DH has seen an ENT physician who comes to the island several times per month; he does not believe the conductive component is amenable to treatment. The child’s parents do not have the financial resources to seek another ENT consultation/treatment, e.g. in Puerto Rico or in the States.
