Second Evaluation Results

MH was scheduled for an eye evaluation under sedation in an operating room, and ABR testing was conducted at the same time, so that only one sedation was needed for the two procedures.  Testing was conducted at 90 dB nHL, with click stimuli, using insert earphones.  The results are shown below.  You will need to click on the image to see it fully, otherwise only the right ear data are visible.

    • Critique and analyze the findings.

? Are these ABR results consistent or inconsistent with the VRA thresholds, and do the findings confirm or call into question your preliminary diagnosis?

The audiologist repeated DPOAE testing, and again responses were present. Transient OAEs were obtained as well.

  • Are the TEOAE findings consistent with DPOAE results or discrepant?

Tympanograms were type A.  Ipsilateral acoustic reflexes were absent from 500 to 4000 Hz.

  • What is the role of acoustic reflex testing in the diagnostic picture?
