Y.D. had additional surgery for her facial deformities, and per the audiologist, had a device that was used to help shape the head.
This image is from Wikipedia and shows the typical head band that is used to help shape the growing skull. This is an informal communication by email from Dr Baskin, the audiologist who worked with the child at school.
“Y. wore one of those halo (not sure what they are actually called) things around her head to correct her mandible and maxilla placement right after the surgery by XXX 11/07. It was NOT a helmet or cranial band. It was a little barbaric looking. When it was removed and she came back to school (she was out for the 3 months she had this on) I tested her and I found the mixed loss and that thresholds dropped…”
YD was also tested by the ENT’s audiologist with similar findings. YD was reported as very reliable, and thresholds appeared to be fluctuating.
- Speculate on what might cause the change from a loss that was once purely conductive to this mixed loss.
- What would be your amplification recommendation now?
