Case 19

“B” is age 7.  The history is summarized as follows.

-Born at 37 weeks (term), via emergency C-section due to the mother having a high fever and the babie’s hear rate decelerating.

-As a neonate, stayed in the NICU for 3 days due to jaundice, treated with phototherapy

-No unusual health history

-Crawled at 8 months, walked at 13 months.

-Language development: first words at 16 months. Put together two words at 24 months.  Vocabulary delays.  No present concern of speech/language development.

-Weak on reading via phonics, problems distinguishing between short and long vowels.

-Weak in math, especially remembering numbers.

-Easily distracted.

-Difficulty following multi-step directions

-Difficulty recalling previously learned material

-Interacts well with peers, but has poor eye contact.

    1. Review the case information.
    2. Score all test results.
    3. Analyze the test results and compare to normative data. Describe the test results and their relationship to the normative data.
    4. Describe the overall pattern of the test results and what type (if any) auditory processing delay is present.
    5. Report on the type of delay or delays and the recommendations (at least 5) that you have for this child, appropriate to the specific type of delay you diagnosed.
