Pediatric Audiology

This site presents case studies in audiology, organized by the tabs right.

The cases use problem-based learning strategies. Students are encouraged to research questions raised if they have not yet had coursework on a given topic.

The goals for this case series are as follows:

  • Recognize characteristics of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder and formulate appropriate case management recommendations
  • Recognize the limitations of individual evaluation components and formulate evaluation plans based on preliminary electrophysiologic and/or audiometric data
  • Correlate electrophysiologic, immittance, and behavioral findings and reconcile differences between their respective estimates of hearing sensitivity and site of lesion
  • Provide recommendations for case management of children with varying types and severity of hearing loss
  • Select amplification characteristics with appropriate safety features for young hearing-impaired patients
  • Recognize cases of non-organic loss
  • Score auditory processing evaluation data sheets and interpret the findings
