Case 7

Patient History

Age:                68

Gender:          F

Patient feels AD hearing decreased progressively. She reports having had a mastoidectomy. She says if she holds her right ear / ear canal open she hears somewhat better. She says it sounds as if people mumble; she is considering hearing aids.  She has bilateral tinnitus. She has had Asian flu and ear infections treated with “large quantities of medication.”

  • There is a condition called “collapsing ear canals” – which is a problem faced when testing with with TDH supra-aural earphones.  Do a brief search on this condition. Could one have collapsing ear canals when there is no earphone pressing on the ear?
