The patient is seen pre-operatively – she is scheduled for parotid gland tumor removal on the left side.  She has Lupus and high blood pressure.  She has bouts of dizziness that last several minutes, which began 4 months ago.

□       What is the parotid gland?  Do you think hearing loss after surgery is unlikely, moderately likely or highly likely?

□       What is Lupus, and does it affect hearing?

□       Do you think the dizziness might be related to either the parotid gland problem, the Lupus, or do you think it probably isn’t related to either?
