This site presents case studies in audiology, organized by the tabs to the right.
The cases use problem-based learning strategies. Students are encouraged to research questions if the material has not yet been included in coursework.
These cases are designed to do the following
- Show the use of otoacoustic emissions testing in substantiating the presence of hearing loss.
- Reinforce immittance data interpretation is featured. Students must have an understanding of what constitutes a normal / abnormal acoustic reflex threshold and be able to calculate reflex sensation level to successfully navigate these cases. The use of immittance in establishing site of lesion is highlighted.
- Review tympanometric width calculation and its use
- Introduce case management strategies.
Some amplification topics are presented, but coursework in amplification is not required for this case studies series.
