Audiologist:  I estimated that the loss in the high-pitch range was either moderate or severe based on the ABR test.  Today’s test results tell us that it’s severe.

Father:  So, it’s worse than you thought?

Audiologist:  It’s about what I thought the loss would turn out to be, but on the more severe side of my estimates, yes.

Father:  Oh, Lord. The news keeps getting worse and worse.

Audiologist:  Oh, no, it’s really OK.  The hearing aids are still able to compensate for the hearing loss.  I’ll just tune them, that’s actually our next step before you leave today, and it will only take a few minutes because I have (the baby’s) real-ear-to-coupler data stored so I can make the adjustments on the programming computer.
