The following results were obtained, but with only fair reliability and considerable effort. Insert earphones were used.

The above results were preliminarily obtained. The (m) following the spondee threshold indicates that contralateral masking was used. The student recognized that masking was needed for air-conduction testing but the preceptor made the following points.
□ The interaural attenuation values are extremely and unbelievably high. The sound should be crossing to the left ear at lower levels.
□ The child is difficult to test, but this raises question about whether the boy might be exaggerating the problems.
- What is the type and severity of the loss in the right ear?
- Contrast this to the stated “maximum conductive loss” level. Do you understand why the preceptor audiologist is concerned?
