When abnormal results are found, it is prudent to repeat the test results. In ‘test 2′ below, the notching could have been due to patient movement. Test 3 shows a much different finding. Note that test 4 was conducted at a slower rate of pressure change. The fast rates are considered appropriate for screening, but not for diagnostic workups, so the “valid” tympanogram is the one at the slowest rate.
