Site Introduction
This site presents case studies in audiology, organized by the tabs to the right. They were obtained at another medical facility in the late 1990s. All air-conduction testing was conducted with TDH earphones rather than insert earphones.
The cases use problem-based learning strategies. Students are encouraged to research questions if the material has not yet been included in coursework.
The goals for this case study series are as follows:
* To reinforce masking concepts
* To provide experience at using immittance to identify middle ear pathology
* To allow students to classify multifrequency/multicomponent tympanograms using Vanhuyse classifications, determine abnormality
* To permit students to determine from the results if middle ear resonant frequency is raised or lowered, and if so, because of lack of/ additional stiffness and/or lack of and/or additional mass.
