Age 42

Symptoms, particularly dizziness, is reported as worse, and hearing is again said to be fluctuating in the left ear.

Her audiogram is below.

She is given diuretics, and MRI is ordered, and seen again in one month, with these audiometric results.

The MRI report summary is as follows. ” Nonspecific gliosis in the bifrontal vertex.  1.8 by 8 mm lesion in the right cerebellopontine angle most likely represents and arachnoid cyst and less likely an epidermoid.  IACs normal.  A repeat MRI in 6 months is recommended.”

  • What is an arachnoid cyst? An epidermoid?  Gliosis?

The repeat MRI summary is “1-2 mm foci of nonspecific gliosis in the superior bilateral frontal lobes is noted.”

No audiogram is obtained at that time, but 6 months later (age 43), hearing is normal and entirely symmetrical in both ears.
