Case 1

Patient:  Y.F.

Age: 19 months

Y.F. was referred for sedated ABR testing because of lack of speech and language development.  His mother reports he does not respond to loud sounds nor to his name.  He was born full term and he passed a neonatal hearing screening.  He was in the NICU for four days after birth.  He has had one ear infection, 7 months prior to testing.  His medical history is otherwise unremarkable.

Otoscopy revealed clear ear canals bilaterally. 226 Hz tympanograms revealed normal peak pressure and compliance. Acoustic ipsilateral reflex threshold was present in the left ear at 500 Hz and absent at 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. Ipsilateral reflexes thresholds were absent in the right ear at all frequencies tested (500, 1000, 2000, 4000).
